I Hope

Oh creation, you teach me well.  You take your place and use your voice. Whether rocks or birds or trees or breeze, you make it look so easy to know  your place and live in freedom.

I look simply at this year ahead, 12 pages on the fridge, open to mark and schedule, to see the celebrations, the road trips, the visits from those I love . A wedding, a grand baby…all by God’s grace we plan.

This year…

I hope to live with the awareness of my giftedness and purpose; to use my voice; not words because “this is just the way I am”, but a voice fueled by the love of God, spoken for the good of others; where words are spoken at the right time; where my voice is quiet in the places when my ears should do the work. Everyone needs love. Everyone needs someone to listen.  These are things that matter. I hope to be that person.

I hope to feed my mind, body and spirit each day; to process those gifts received so I can be a purposeful giver into the hearts of those I love. A funneled life seems pretty ideal–getting from God and giving from that well. I can see this clearly from the things of earth.

I hope to be a learner of these things that matter.

  1. Thank you, Sonya. This makes me think of this quote by David Benner: “In all of creation, identity is a challenge only for humans. A tulip knows exactly what it is. It is never tempted by false ways of being. Nor does it face complicated decisions in the process of becoming . So it is with dogs, rocks, trees, starts, amoebas, electrons and all other things. All give glory to God by being exactly what they are . . . there is a way of being for each of us that is as natural and deeply congruent as the life of the tulip.” David Benner, “The Gift of Being Yourself,” pp. 14-15. Happy New Year!
